- Hyundai unveiled the new 2011 Accent at the Beijing auto show.
- The new model will go into production in China this summer.
- U.S. version will arrive in 2011.
BEIJING — The redesigned 2011 Hyundai Accent, which is sold in Korea and some overseas markets as the Verna, is making its world debut at the 2010 Beijing Auto Show.
Resembling a scaled-down Sonata, the new Accent/Verna will go into production at the Beijing-Hyundai plant in July, Hyundai said.
A companion model is expected to replace the current Accent in the U.S. in model year 2011.
In China, the new Verna will come with a choice of Gamma four-cylinder engines — a 106-horsepower 1.4-liter unit and a 121-hp 1.6-liter unit. Transmission choices include a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic.

Don't hope to hard for a hatch, although it is possible. American buyers do not like the term hatchback and never really have, although the design is very good. Much like calling something a stationwagon, or a minivan, we American's are idiots when it comes to buying a vehicle based on how we perceive ourselves versus how the vehicle can do its job. If you doubt that, count the amount of pickups and suv's on the road when you are commuting home. Tomorrow count the minivans. It will be 5 to 1 at least. That's 5 people to every 1 who can't admit that a minivan with it's better fuel economy, better real world use of space, and lower insurance rates is NOT the better vehicle for them.
Hatchbacks in the US will most likely be the micro suv's like the xB, and its ilk. A pity because for most single people a car like the Accent 3 door is just a good sensible design choice.

Before the 2011 or 2012 Hyundai Accent (Verna) hits N.A., there will be changes to both engines and transmissions. Both Hyundai and its sister company Kia are very tight lipped about their next generation offerings destined for US and Canada until close to introduction. The "Verna" shown at the Beijing Auto Show is a good teaser though.

Great looking car! BAD transmission choices! 6-speed manuals and automatics are the name of the game now!

I would like to see a hatchback with a 1.6 turbo engine. They should make it the exact same length and shape as the one with a trunk.

Wow, this is a solid effort by Hyundai - very impressed. Really like that they went with a generous sized rim/tire combo to fill out the wheel wells. Attractive wheel design as well.
Great proportions and aggressive youthful styling. Have seen pics of the interior and very nicely done. This is going to sell extremely well imo..

Where is the 5 door hatchback version? I know the US loves sedans but I for one, will NOT consider a B-Segment vehicle without the versatility that a hatchback like my 2006 Kia Rio5 SX has. A multi-purpose mini-wagon. If Hyundai won`t make it, hopefully its sister company Kia will do the deal!

A very nice solid looking redesign. I agree about the 4-speed, it needs to be a 5-speed.

That first picture makes it look like the new Focus

You have got to be kidding me...... My sister just bought the $23k 2011 Sonata(by my suggestion) and now there is going to be a $13k "mini-me" running around!

notabigdeal: that is not a good enough excuse any more. And while it will be cheaper than the Fiesta, I don't see it undercutting the Aveo by that kind of margin.
