Chicago Show: 2007 Hyundai Accent GS and SE Debut

CHICAGO — Hyundai has joined the rush of Asian automakers scrambling to provide American buyers with new small-car choices by adding two new three-door models to its Accent lineup.

The Accent GS and SE made their debut on Wednesday at the Chicago auto show. They will go on sale in the spring.

The Accent GS will start at $11,495, including a $580 destination charge. The Accent SE will be priced under $15,000 with destination, Hyundai spokesman Miles Johnson told Inside Line.

Hyundai said both models borrow from the look of the E3 concept car unveiled at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show.

The SE is positioned as the sportier model and comes equipped with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, metallic interior accents, and a sport-tuned suspension. It is outfitted with body-color exterior mirrors and door handles, 16-inch alloy wheels, and foglights. A power sunroof and a 220-watt audio system with an in-dash CD changer are optional.

Both the GS and SE are equipped with a 1.6-liter DOHC inline four-cylinder engine that makes 110 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 106 pound-feet of torque at 4,500 rpm.

The entry-level Accent GS includes a tilt steering wheel, eight-way adjustable driver seat and power steering.

What this means to you: More choices in the growing entry-level segment.
