Based on the Hummer H3 SUV, the Hummer H3T pickup offers a five-passenger crew cab and a separate 5-foot-long truck bed. The H3T is bigger than a midsize truck and smaller than a full-size truck, which Hummer says creates "its own niche in the market."
The crew cab body shares H3 styling and components from the B-pillar forward, while the rear section of the cab and the separate bed are unique to the H3T. The bed is setup similar to GM's full-size trucks, including a removable tailgate and optional bed-rail accessory system. The H3T's stretched wheelbase measures 134.2 inches — 22 inches longer than the H3 SUV.
Like the H3 SUV, the H3T uses a 242-horsepower 3.7-liter inline five-cylinder base engine, mated to a five-speed manual transmission or an optional four-speed automatic.
The upmarket H3T Alpha gets a 300-hp 5.3-liter V8 engine paired with an electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission to earn a 5,900-pound tow rating. Hummer says the H3T is the only midsize truck to come standard with full-time four-wheel drive, 32-inch tires and functional skid shields. Optional equipment includes front and rear locking differentials and 33-inch tires.
Production is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2008 at GM's Shreveport, Louisiana, assembly plant.
