    Just the Facts:
    • GM will recall all 2006-to-present H3s to fix a problem with the hood louver.
    • The tabs that hold the louver in place could break, causing the whole piece to come off.
    • Hummer owners will get a letter next week advising them of the recall.

DETROIT — General Motors has announced a recall of all Hummer H3 and H3T models built since model year 2006 over a hood problem. The tabs that hold the hood louver in place are the culprit, which could cause part of the hood to come off while the vehicle is in motion.

The recall affects 162,129 Hummer H3 models, GM said in filings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

NHTSA's recalls statement says the integral clip tabs on the hood louver could "fracture, causing the louver to rattle against the hood and become loose," with the possibility of the louver's detaching from the vehicle entirely.

Hummer owners will get a letter next week, and GM dealers will use an adhesive to refasten the louver at no charge. Those with the affected vehicles can also call GM at (800) 732-5493 or visit the GM Owner Center Web site.
