Honda S2000 - Wins Award, But Where's the Torque?
Geneva - In other news out of Honda, the S2000 Roadster won the "Cabrio of the Year" award for 1999. The award is handed out annually by a panel of 17 journalists in 10 different countries. We find it interesting that so many European journalists have already driven the car enough to form such a favorable opinion of its merits, when in fact the S2000 won't be on sale in Europe or the U.S. for nearly half a year. Noteworthy -- Finally, we have discovered the torque output of the 2.0-liter DOHC VTEC engine found in the S2000. For months, all we knew was that the engine would put out 240 naturally aspirated horsepower. Turns out, horsepower peaks at a lofty 8500 rpm. Torque was probably not mentioned earlier due to its relatively low peak of 150 foot-pounds at 7500 rpm. Wind it up, and it goes.
