TORRANCE, California — Honda beefed up the 2012 Ridgeline lineup with a new Ridgeline Sport model starting at $30,805, including an $810 destination charge.

The new Ridgeline Sport adds cosmetic touches including 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels, a black honeycomb grille, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls and fog lights. Other details include an auxiliary audio input jack, rear privacy glass, all-weather floor mats and black headlight and brake light housings.

All four 2012 Ridgeline models get the carryover 250-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine linked to a five-speed automatic transmission.

In early October, Honda took the unusual step of issuing a statement on its corporate Web site that said "plans to discontinue the Ridgeline are false." The move was prompted by persistent reports in the media that the Japanese automaker was about to kill its truck.

"Ridgeline is here to stay," said Honda.

The base 2012 Honda Ridgeline starts at $30,060, including shipping, reflecting a $100 price increase over the 2011 model. The top-of-the-line 2012 Honda Ridgeline RTL with navigation starts at $37,990, including shipping.

The Ridgeline gets a slightly modified grille design for 2012, along with slightly better fuel economy. The EPA says the 2012 Ridgeline will return 15 mpg in city driving and 21 mpg on the highway.

Inside Line says: Reports of the Ridgeline's death were greatly exaggerated.

This thing is like the car that time forgot - time for a redesign, not a freshening.  Typical Honda - such a great idea, so poorly executed.  What happened to this company?!

When I can get a full-size that has more capacity, gets better fuel economy, and at a lower price...

Sorry Honda, you should've kept the Element and killed this one instead.

And here Honda had a perfectly good chance to kill this ghastly thing off good, but no. Instead we're stuck with this cheesy and misshapen pickup that journalists couldn't gush enough about when it debuted because there's a trunk built into the pickup bed. BFD. Honda is making one misstep after another.

This truck isnt so good at being a truck. But its also not that great as a car.
Underpowered and the bed is too small.
Crap interior and expencive with poor MPG
At 38k Get an F-150 XLT Ecoboost. Heck at 30k get an F-150 STX 3.7, thats a solid truck. And comfortable too.

Can you imagine the nasty insults if one of the Detroit 3 made a car or truck with an interior this ugly and outdated looking?  I like the Ridgeline on paper, but in reality they made it really ugly, it gets lousy MPG, and they have never kept it updated.  Their sales have plummeted and it's about to get trashed when the new Colorado comes out.  I would also like to see the VW Amarok come to the US with a turbodiesel - that would shake up the truck world!

All the so called updates, plus big $$$ for this thing and still does not have a simple rear window defroster, and what is with that cheap crab you called a radio?!? oh please, Honda...

Jscion you are absolutely correct. Great idea when new now just and expensive, noncompetitive truck in need of an engine with some cojones. Couldnt they have at least fitted it with the MDX's powertrain (3oo HP/275 tq /6 speed tranny).

$38k for this ugly truck? No thanks. I can think of many better ways to spend $38k on a car.
