Geneva Auto Show Preview: 2008 Honda RA 108 F1 Makes Public Debut

GENEVA — Honda has announced that its 2008 RA 108 F1 will make its public debut at the upcoming 2008 Geneva Auto Show. On Tuesday, the car was officially unveiled at the team's operational headquarters in Brackley, U.K.

The RA 108 gets a new "earthdreams" livery in earth-friendly-looking blue and green tones. Honda says the car represents a "directional step change in the car design philosophy.

"The RA 108 car is a wholly different concept to its predecessors, in terms of its aerodynamic layout and mechanical structure," the automaker said in a statement. "The design philosophy has been developed to allow greater scope for aerodynamic packaging and exploitation, particularly to facilitate the introduction of performance upgrades through the season."

Honda noted that "this approach should allow more potential for further developments to take place, the first of which will be for Melbourne, when we will introduce a substantially revised aerodynamic package compared with the car we have launched today."

Honda set out its agenda for the 2008 racing season, noting: "Our target for 2008 is to get back to the position occupied during the second half of the 2006 season when Honda fought for points at every race." It called last year's performance "disappointing."

What this means to you: A new-look livery and a new attitude may mean everything to Honda during the 2008 racing season. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
