TOKYO — The Honda N Box, a "mini-minivan" for the Japanese market, debuted at the 2011 Tokyo Auto Show.
Designed for Japan's kei jidosha or minicar category, the N Box will go on sale in December starting at $15,997. The top-of-the-line N Box G with a turbo package starts at $22,970.
Honda says the N Box, which gets a twincam 660cc engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission, is the first model in Honda's new N Series. It also borrows the idle-stop mechanism from Honda's hybrids to deliver the equivalent of 52 mpg.
The boxy little microvan also borrows the center tank layout from the Honda Fit. The N Box gets standard vehicle stability assist and hill start assist.
Inside Line says: You won't be seeing this mini-minivan in the school carpool fleet. It's only for Japan.

I didn't think it was possible to make anything uglier than the Cube (unless Toyota were to enter this market niche), but wow this thing is awful. I can't image what would possess (and I DO mean possess as in demonic possession, because that's really the only excuse) to buy such a thing.

It has to be underpowered, did you look at how tall and skinny that thing is, taking a corner or curve at more than 5mph would probably tip it over, going straight on a windy day would probably do the same.

Honda should sell it here. Could create a niche market like the Juke and Cube both did a few years back.

Thank God that thing is not crossing the pond to the US. It's fugly and severely underpowered for our roads.
