- Honda is recalling more than 400,000 Odyssey minivans for a brake issue.
- Approximately 37,000 Acura RL sedans are also being recalled for the same issue.
- This is the Odyssey's third recall this year.
TORRANCE, California — Honda is recalling 471,820 Acura RL sedans and Honda Odyssey minivans from 2005-'07 to check for and correct brake fluid leaks. Honda said its dealers would replace a seal in the brake master cylinder.
About 37,000 of the vehicles are RL sedans; the rest are Odyssey minivans.
Honda already has recalled the Odyssey twice this year.
In early March, Honda recalled 21,776 of its 2005 Odyssey Touring minivans with a power-operated rear liftgate because the struts could wear prematurely, resulting in the liftgate's closing unexpectedly.
Several weeks later, Honda recalled 344,000 of its 2007-'08 Odyssey minivans and 68,000 Elements to fix the vehicle stability assist modulator in response to customer complaints about brakes that feel "soft" or that "gradually exhibit a pedal height that gets lower before the vehicle stops."
The problem appears to be similar to the one the caused Toyota Motor earlier this week to recall more than 1.5 million vehicles globally.
Inside Line says: Honda said owners can check if their vehicle requires repair by calling a toll-free safety hotline at (800) 999-1009. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent

Chrysler only had to recall approx 26,000 vehicles because that is all it sold. Regardless, these recalls are bad news. Who the hell is designing this stuff? For the price Honda is asking for these minivans, they should be flawless.

You don't have to use the Honda brand fluid, but using the wrong DOT or other will make bad things happen. I haven't had an issue with my brakes at all, and I use a non-Honda fluid. Granted most people will abuse and ignore anything short of a crash in cars these days.

Now if they will recall the transmission and power steering on my 2007 I would be happy. the brakes are fine. This will be the third TSB I have taken my vehicle in for. Just search Honda Odyssey transmission and you will see the problem honda has already lost in class action lawsuit that only extended the warranty.

What this article doesnt tell you is that this recall is only for Odyssey owners that opted not to use Honda Brake fluid. For customers who decided to use Non-Honda Brake fluid the seal may wear or corrode due to a difference in the make-up of the fluid... Just an FYI...

Then I guess it's the same Toyota quality engineer approving the design too, huh?

Must use the same supplier as Toyota for the braking system on these models.

Again, this makes the Chrystler recall look like nothing.
