TORRANCE, California — Honda will provide a sneak preview of its next-generation Odyssey minivan as a concept in early February at the 2010 Chicago Auto Show. The next Odyssey is due in 2011 as a 2012 model.
The Odyssey concept follows on the heels of the 2011 Toyota Sienna that debuted at the Los Angeles auto show.
Built in Alabama, the Odyssey was America's best-selling minivan in 2008 and '09, a slot that Toyota would very much like to usurp in 2010.
Honda revealed few details, other than to say the next Odyssey "will further enhance its hallmark qualities of innovation, quality, safety and fun-to-drive character, while increasing its overall efficiency."
The 2012 Odyssey is expected to get a version of Honda's 3.7-liter V6 and a new six-speed automatic transmission. Also rumored is a possible hybrid variant.
Inside Line says: It will be interesting to see which rival — Honda or Toyota — is first to market with a hybrid minivan. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent

Make it a diesel hybrid! First in the world! Plenty of torque for the pork. And Honda has a nice 2.2 DI running in Europe for years now.
Seriously, that would truely be an alternative to a gas guzzling 3.7l V6.
Imagine 40 mpg on a van that size! Now that would get my attention and motivate me to trade in my 2005 Oddy.

Hopefully the redesign wont go the Acura Bucktooth route or the Pilot...well whatever they did to the Pilot. I just thought about it, it's a minivan...who cares? You can make them all white and put "Wonder Bread" on the side. People will continue vans because they're useful, not necessarily to make a design or fashion statement. Those people who are trying to make their minivan stylish are crying out for help (Yes, I'm talking to you...the person that put 20+ inch aftermarket wheels on a Venture)
