Honda NSX Super GT To Take Last Run in Japan

MOTEGI, Japan — Honda appears to be bringing down the curtain on the NSX's race career in Japan. It's not for lack of success; in fact, a works-backed NSX could yet win the 2009 Super GT championship.

Even though it's now out of production, Honda's midship V6 coupe has continued to race and be highly competitive in Super GT, Japan's hugely popular race series that with its big crowds and strong racing is the nearest thing to a Japanese NASCAR.

Honda has confirmed that the Super GT round at Twin Ring Motegi on November 8 will be the "last run" for the NSX-GT, the full-on racing version of the NSX that Honda runs in the top GT500 class in Super GT.

Honda has said it will still be in the Super GT in 2010 but with a new car. What that car will be it won't yet say. Some, however, speculate that Honda may revive the front-engined NSX that it developed and tested some 12 months ago.

That car flopped but maybe could yet be resurrected. Honda is due to make an announcement after the race at Motegi as to its plans for 2010.

Racing in the Super GT (and before that the All Japan GT Championship), the NSX has bagged a stellar 49 poles and won 36 times over the past 13 seasons. In 2000 and again in 2007, Honda secured both drivers' and manufacturers' titles in Super GT with the NSX, a car that, in racing terms, seems ageless.

Acura nsx was an exotic super car back in 1990.It was faster than ferrari at the time.the car had all aluminum body which was first ever. The guy who built mclaren even owned an NSX for 7 years and he said it was the best car he ever owned, and he admired NSX styling so much that he wanted to build a better car than NSX and NSX was his motivation to build mclaren.he even went to honda motor company and sked them to build a v12 for his mclaren project and his request was denied multiple times.he ended up using bmw v12 in that car.so Nsx will be missed, hope fully the new NSX come some day with v10

With the new CEO of honda Ito who designed the NSX body in the 1980's, this is his baby and he wont let it die.  The last CEO killed it because of the recession and he thought it wasn't needed he also killed the V-8 RL. The biggest engine honda makes is the 3.7 V-6 and is used in the MDX, RL, TL and the new ZDX.  The NSX that was in the works was gonna use a V-10 to compete with lexus LF-A and Nissan GT-R. I work for honda in Marysville OH buiding the RDX, TL and honda accord sedan and coupe. From reports inside honda is He Ito will bring back the NSX but it'll be 5 years off before we the public get one!  So my Friends the story you do read is true the death of the V-6 powered NSX-GT and in with new V10 next gen NSX-GT! Can't wait!

Original NSX had a V6 out of a vanilla Accord.  Never was, or will be, mentioned in any supercar book.  Chick car, Period.  Won't be missed

The NSX has been my Dream Car for forever, I just hope Honda is fooling us all and still has a new one in the works, PLEASE Honda there isn't much left in the Honda line up that makes Honda, Honda, not in the US anyways. The NSX, S2000, Integra R, and Prelude SH are all gone, we get no Type R Civic's in the states, man this is upsetting.  Don't get me wrong I'll be a Honda fan for life, but man I wish Honda would stick to its roots your fans need cars like the S2000, and NSX!  Atleast the CR-Z is cool, but a hybrid, damnit!

I have always rooted for the Honda teams in the SGTJ...the NSX and the FD3S RX7 are, to this day, my favorite cars ever.
