2002 Honda NSX Type-R (FYI, Acura is called Honda in Japan)
What's special about it?
The NSX is an amazing sports car, combining a balanced chassis with aluminum construction for a supremely capable vehicle. Sure, the platform is more than a decade old, and the only changes it's seen is a mild fascia tweak for 2002 that lost the dated flip-up headlamps for a more wide-eyed look, but it still gets our pulses racing whenever we spot this exotic around town. The 2004 or 2005 will see a more extensive revamping, possibly with a V8 or a V12 in store, but for now, we'll report on some minor cosmetic changes.
The NSX Type-R (as if the regular NSX weren't race-tuned enough) comes with Recaro carbon fiber Aramid bucket seats and eight-spoke 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels. A carbon-fiber hood air outlet, rear spoiler and engine compartment cover further visually distinguish the Type-R in addition to slightly lowering the body weight.
Why should you care?
Unless you feel that your NSX just isn't special enough, you really shouldn't. Liz Kim
