January 6, 1998 -- Honda unveiled the 1999 MV-99 minivan concept vehicle that represents a model for the Accord-based V-6 minivan expected to hit dealerships in October 1998. The MV-99 gave spectators an idea of what to expect on the Accord-derived vehicle in terms of powertrain and style.

At 196 inches long, 79 inches wide and 67.5 inches high, the front-wheel drive MV-99 represents the largest vehicle Honda has ever built. These proportions (or close to it) will also be produced on the new Honda minivan. Production on the minivan is set to begin at a new assembly line currently under construction in Alliston, Ontario, Canada.

The sleek, futuristic exterior of the MV-99 features dual electric power sliding side doors and front seat doors without handles that open electronically. Where the side rear mirrors are usually stationed, Honda's minivan will instead have tiny wide-angle "lipstick" cameras that provide videos of the side and rear of the car and are displayed on an interior screen.

The interior of the concept car showcased an office on wheels complete with swivel chairs for business meetings on the go, internet access, aircraft-style driver controls, an entertainment center, a rear sofa lounging area and a host of other gadgets that may or may not end up on the production vehicle.
