LOS ANGELES — Hewing closely to the look of the conventional gas-engine Fit, Honda on Wednesday unveiled the Fit EV Concept at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show. The Japanese automaker said the electric concept "hints strongly at the direction and styling for Honda's upcoming Fit EV, which will be introduced to the U.S. and Japan in 2012."
No word on pricing at this point for the production version.
The Fit EV Concept is powered by a high-density coaxial motor and a lithium-ion battery pack. It has a top speed of 90 mph.
Honda says the Fit EV will get 70-100 miles of driving range per charge. The EV can be recharged in about 12 hours when using a conventional 120-volt outlet and less than six hours using a 240-volt outlet.
Several "interactive coaching systems" are designed to help the driver maximize battery range. For instance, a special meter display tells the driver when to shut off air-conditioning and other accessories to conserve battery power.
The concept was spiced up with special blue paint and five-spoke aluminum alloy wheels with blue inserts. It also features LED headlights, a chrome front fascia, aerodynamic bumper, clear LED taillights and EV decals.
Inside Line says: Honda dips its big toe back in the EV market with the Fit EV Concept but conservatively retains the look of the run-of-the-mill Fit. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent

I'll take this EV Fit over the Nissan Leaf or even the Chevy Volt anytime!
