2008 New York Auto Show Preview: 2009 Honda Fit

NEW YORK — Honda has announced that it will unveil its all-new 2009 U.S.-spec Fit subcompact at the 2008 New York Auto Show later this month. It will be on display alongside the Honda Pilot prototype, already seen at Detroit in January, which presages the look of the soon-to-debut '09 Pilot, and the FCX Clarity fuel cell vehicle.

American Honda Executive Vice President Dick Colliver said the new Fit "will reconfirm that small can in fact be big." The new Fit made its global debut at the 2007 Tokyo Auto Show last fall. It has improved interior space over the model currently on sale here — especially for rear-seat passengers — with its windshield moved forward nearly 5 inches and its wheelbase extended to 98.4 inches. The new model is also slightly wider.

Smaller engines are available on the Japan-market Fit, but in the U.S. it's expected to come standard with the 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine.
