    • Honda is recalling 97,201 2009-'10 Fit vehicles in the U.S. because a defective spring part could cause the engine to stall.
    • The action is part of a global recall of 700,000 Honda Fit, Freed and City compact cars.
    • The recall is expected to begin in early March in the U.S.

TORRANCE, California — Honda is recalling 97,201 2009-'10 Fit vehicles in the U.S. because a defective spring part could cause the engine to stall, the automaker said in a statement. The action is part of a global recall of 700,000 Honda Fit, Freed and City compact cars.

Honda said it is recalling the Fit vehicles in the U.S. "to replace the lost-motion springs, components within the engine valvetrain. The lost-motion springs, which are compressed by rocker arms in normal engine use, may bend or break over time, resulting in abnormal engine noise and potentially causing engine damage or stalling."

Honda said no crashes or injuries have been related to this defect.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle recalls, had not posted any information about the Fit recall as of Thursday morning.

Honda said the recall will begin in early March, but did not provide a specific date. Owners can contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009 and select option 4.

Honda has received about 72 complaints about the Fit problem in Japan, according to the Associated Press. The global Fit recall involves vehicles in Japan, China and the rest of Asia, as well as North America.

"Probably standard on all hondas now, along with a transmission that has to be rebuilt before the 20k mark."

My Fit is currently 30k miles young and still have no problems what so ever.
And talking about a car failing before hitting the 20k mark,

LOL OH SNAP, fresh out of the door and stalled on the side of the road..
How's that for good taste in cars.

    dgmail,

"Faulty window switch causing fires ring a bell?
How about warped brake rotors?  "

The two recalled you mentioned are for GD3 fit, which is from 2007 to 2008, the previous generation.
And the recall mentioned in this post is for GE8, which started from 2009, the current generation.
This is the first recall for this model, so it's not  "another Honda Fit Recall", because it's a  two different cars we are talking about.
Unable to identify the difference between the two, that's a big fail on your part.

"If you had taste, you would be driving a Fiesta."

If you just have the ability to check the ford website, the Fiesta came out in fall 2010.  There is no way anyone can buy that car in 2009, (I got my Fit at the end of 2008) again, check the facts before you speak, another FAIL.

Did honda supply you with a bag for your head while driving one of those ugly cracker jack boxes?

If you had taste, you would be driving a Fiesta.

    dgmail,

This is the first recall for GE8, so please get your fact straight.
And as a Fit owner, I would be pleased if you can enlighten me by  providing a "good taste" vehicle that is "in the same class".

Another Honda Fit Recall?  How many is that now?

Will these two companies be competing for the title of Recall Motors?

Most of us have our money on TOyota to be the big REcall winner again in 2011.

ALL HOnda fit owners should be recalled for bad taste in cars

Where are those people who thought that the Toyota recalls were Obama influenced due to money invested in GM?  Just a few days ago, they were demanding apologies and investigations.  Now, that Honda is recalling about 500,000 vehicles, what is the conspiracy spin on this going to be?
No doubt all recalls will be politically motivated as long as they are recalls for foreign car makers.  But recalls by domestic cars will be proof of how poorly American cars are made.  Glen Beck, here is your next headline.

I understand this engine design has been in use since 2002 without trouble.

May be they switched to a cheaper supplier for the springs and this is the result.

Wow.  Didn't know valve spring technology had suddenly become difficult.  First Lexus V8's, now Honda 4 cylinders.  Would be interesting to learn if they are the same part, or same supplier.
