2008 Tokyo Auto Salon: Mugen Boosts Honda Fit With Supercharger

TOKYO — Japanese tuner Mugen has radically transformed the subcompact Honda Fit with its F154SC concept, shown at the Tokyo Auto Salon, sporting some serious upgrades to boost power, handling and style.

The F154SC's most noteworthy modification is the supercharger hooked up to the 1.5-liter L15A engine that powers the U.S.-spec Fit. Mugen claims the setup is good for more than 147 horsepower at 6,600 rpm and 135 pound-feet of torque at 3,800 rpm. In the U.S., the L15A makes 109 hp and 105 lb-ft.

The modified Fit rides on 17-inch aluminum wheels with disc brakes at all four corners that feature larger braking surfaces for quicker stops. There is also an Intelligent Tire Condition Monitoring System or i-TCMS that keeps track of tire pressures and temperature.

The F154SC's appearance has also been extensively reworked with a vented hood and a body kit with flared wheel arches and carbon-fiber spoiler coming off the roof. Dual exhaust pipes are neatly integrated into the rear valance. Changes on the interior include the steering wheel, shift knob, pedals, seats and the addition of a boost gauge.

What this means to you: This wild Honda Fit may have to serve as mere inspiration for your personal modifications, since not all the Mugen hardware makes the journey across the Pacific. — Eric Tingwall, Correspondent
