TOKYO — The Honda CR-Z will go into production in a further expansion of Honda's hybrid lineup. The Japanese automaker confirmed on Wednesday at the 2009 Tokyo Auto Show that a production version of the CR-Z Concept coupe will debut in North America in the second half of 2010. It said the production CR-Z "will be packaged as a sporty two-seat hybrid that provides a personal driving experience for North American consumers."
The production version of the Honda CR-Z will make its world debut at the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January, Honda said.
"The Honda CR-Z will expand our lineup of hybrid vehicles and reinforce the fun-to-drive values associated with the Honda brand," said Erik Berkman, American Honda Motor vice president of automobile corporate planning and logistics.

A leaked brochure of the production version of the CR-Z was found yesterday:
http://www.vtec.net/news/news-item?news_item_id=866814
Most notably, it mentions (in the 3rd picture) stats of 25km/l and 22.5km/l... which equates to about 59mpg and 53mpg, respectively.????
Hope my math is right :)

I'm torn on this. I've been looking forward to it's release since it debuted, but I agree with others that it should have more power if it's going to be 'sporty'. But, the original CRX only had 106HP but was shy of 2200lbs for the Si. This having 120HP and weighing 2800lbs isnt looking good on the power/weight ratio, but the closer 6 speed transmission and the instant torque of the electric motor should definitely make it quick. Real world numbers should be quicker than the original Si, but that wasn't anything great off the line. It's handling that made the CRX what it was. I still own my 1990 CRX and love it. It will be no where near the speed of the Si, or Cooper, or GTI, or anything in that low 7 second range, but i hope it makes up for it on the handling. Using the R18 engine or something compairable would have been nice IMO. Anything over the Si's price tag would be a poor choice as well, but we'll wait and see won't we!O.

After the NSX, S2000, Integra R, RSX S, and Prelude SH have all gone I started to lose sight of where Honda was going as a brand because it doesn't seem like Honda without sports cars. Then I heard this car was coming out and my hopes were lifted kind of. Until I read it's going to be a hybrid, wait, a what, a friggin hybrid, this really upsets me. Why ruin this absolute perfect platform with a weak hybrid powertrain? The Si's K20 would be the perfect engine choice for a car this size. This better be some heck of a hybrid powertrain to get me in one. If it has one less horsepower than 160 I won't even consider it. I have to give Honda some credit though, at least it has a 6 speed.

The movie player stated the engine is a 1.5 liter. hope it gets good mileage and a fair price tag.

I heard 140 hp 1.8L or a (likely more powerful) 2.5L. If Honda can at least match the performance of the Cooper S, but with better economy, I think they'll have a winner. But we all know what happened to Honda's last two-seat hybrid with a manual tranny.

If it's "sporty" then it should have more than the 120 HP he reported, + hybrid engine. Still, I bet it weighs a bunch, and the new Kia Forte Koup has as much as 173 HP and weighs under 2900 lbs. It also looks a hellofalot better In my opinion. And I think it's supposed to cost about $28,000? That seems like way too much. The only was I think it could sell is if it was less than the Civic SI. Because it will for sure be slower, and I doubt it'll get much better MPG than it. The front has such an ugly nose to me.
hehe; he called it a CR-Zed...

I like it, but why only a 2 seater? Very impractical.

Cool. I was always fond of CRX's...especially 2nd gen Si's! It would be great if it can deliver Si performance and HF fuel economy!!!

wow so ugly.....
at 0:20 the back looks like theres a huge chunk missing out of it from that angle. Note to Honda: in advertising avoid that angle
