This week we have new spy footage of the upcoming 2012 Honda CR-V. Honda has already released a photo of what it called a "concept" version of the CR-V, but as you can see from the prototypes we caught testing in Death Valley, the production version won't be much different. It's clear that Honda has made this CR-V slightly bigger than before, but contrary to speculation that it might include a third-row seat, this CR-V looks like it will remain a five-passenger SUV. There's no doubt it will remain a four-cylinder only vehicle as well, but the possibility of getting Honda's new six-speed automatic should mean slightly improved performance and fuel economy. Look for the official debut of the 2012 Honda CR-V in the next few months with sales beginning by the end of this year.

It's best NOT to have a third row in the CR-V, even if it grows the third row would still be compromised compared to bigger vehicles.
It looks to be towing a significant (relatively speaking) weight there. I wonder if that's due to a torquey diesel option or at least a larger displacement K series engine. Here's hoping for either.

@dmpete
You buy a CRV for its 4 cylinder engine which provides better fuel economy than a Pilot. Also, like every car segment nowadays, every new redesigned vehicle is significantly larger than its previous generation because bigger is more...

Edmunds has a fixation on performance and 3rd row seats on SUV's. I don't care about either. If it will merge adequately, that is performance enough. 0-60 time is a big don't care. Lean on cornering - I don't corner fast enough for it to be a problem. As for the 3rd seat, it just takes up room I can use for storage. I will not buy a SUV with three seats. Forget performance and the 3rd row seat and give me a power passenger seat.

Autoweek says future Honda products including this upcoming CRV will only be a two rows & have a 6 speed transmission. Looking forward to this definitely.

pc123456, +1 on the sentiment. These vehicles DON'T NEED a 3rd row. it just encourages breeding. Look around - do we need more people? no.

why should a small SUV have a 3rd row?
I hate this super-sizing of everything
This used to be a "cute ute"
Honda: stop bloating everything out

When is the last time Honda built a car that I would actually buy? I will give you a hint..... a very long time. The CR-V should be small crossover, this thing is almost as big as the current Pilot. One question, Why? If I wanted a Pilot, I would buy a Pilot. Honda has been disappointing for years, and it just keeps getting worse not better.
