    TORRANCE, California — The redesigned 2012 Honda CR-V, announced Thursday as a finalist for North American Truck of the Year, goes on sale nationwide today, priced from $23,105, including shipping.

    At that price point, the entry-level model is the CR-V LX 2WD. Stickers range up to $30,605 for the range-topping CR-V EX-L AWD with Navi. All prices include an $810 shipping charge.

    Honda said it has raised prices an average of $181, even after adding between $400 and $1,000 worth of standard equipment.

    The 2012 model is powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 185 horsepower and 163 pound-feet of torque — modest increases from 180 hp and 161 lb-ft on the 2011 CR-V. The 2.4-liter is mated still to a five-speed automatic transmission.

    Four-wheel-drive versions of the 2012 CR-V get a new driveline — Honda calls it Real Time All-Wheel-Drive with Intelligent Control System — that returns EPA fuel economy of 22 mpg in city driving and 30 mpg on the highway, up from last year's 21/27 ratings. The standard front-wheel-drive variant of the 2012 CR-V is EPA-rated at 23/31 city/highway, compared with last year's 21/28.

    Honda has dropped the mid SE trim level on the new CR-V. The 2012 range will start with the CR-V LX, which gets more standard equipment, including air-conditioning, cruise control, electric power steering and a 160-watt audio system. Next up is the CR-V EX, which adds a power moonroof, 17-inch alloy wheels and an upgraded audio system. At the top of the line is the CR-V EX-L, which adds leather interior with a 10-way power driver seat, dual-zone automatic climate control and 328-watt premium audio system.

    Inside Line says: A broad price range, with lots of choices.

    I purchased my 2012 Honda CR-V EXL with navigation 3 weeks ago.  This is a far superior model compared to the 2009 EXL I traded in.  Most everything has been upgraded. The ride is better, much quieter, steering has been improved, more MPG, back-up camera, blue tooth, and the list goes on and on. This is the best vehicle in this class for the money.  The new CRV feels like driving a car rather than a truck as the older version did.

    I've been going back and forth building and pricing various small to mid-sized SUVs and the Chevrolet Equinox and Honda CR-V offer the most value even over the value priced Hyundai and Kia.  Very surprising Honda was able to pull it off with this vehicle.  I can say with much confidence this 2012 Honda CR-V is the best value on the market given its #1 in class cargo space, overall design, MPG, standard features and HP/Torque.  If someone can find a better value please let us know!

    While a definite step up in terms of exterior, these don't look as nice as the Kia to my eye. Ford and Mazda may provide more interest in this segment as their designs look interesting and are advertising better dynamics and mileage.

    @narenji:

    Toyota's interior looks horrible, cheap AND low quality...

    Even the current CRV's interior is MUCH better than RAV-4. The 2012 looks even better.

    I think it's priced reasonably.  Most people don't need or are willing to pay for a V6.  That said, I'm disappointed that they don't use a 6-speed and some of the ergonomics are questionable - like the fuel door release that's way down next to the parking brake.

    Interior is still nice and roomy and the flat-fold seats are neat, but the seat belt buckles can get buried under the botton cushion though when the fold the seats back, and the loss of the 2-tier shelf in the trunk is really stupid.  I'm glad they made the retractable trunk cover standard, but they should have made the shelf an accessory.

    I do not think it is priced out of like. When you look at the Toyota or the subpar Hyundai or Kia you will see the CRV is far superior. Does one need a V6? It is not like you are towing or really hauling more than 1 or 2 people. Look at the VW Tiguan it can go to 40k and only has 200 hp.....Have seen the new CRV in person as they are rolling into our dealers I am pretty smitten with them. LOOK BEFORE YOU JUDGE

    wow, 23k for a base model?? and 30k for a ex navi, but still with the same 4 cylinder engine?? You can get a 4wd rav 4 w/v6 for the same price. i think honda is pricing themselves out of the compact suv market, especially considering that they dont offer a stronger engine. Rav4-v6, sportage/tuscon-turbo 4... I think this is precisely the reason the rogue is not as hot a seller- it only has a 4cyl engine with mediocre power.
