ANAHEIM, California — The 2012 Honda CR-V Concept, which previews the production model set for debut at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show, was unveiled on Thursday.

The concept debuted at the 2011 Orange County International Auto Show here.

Honda is clearly taking an edgier design approach with the 2012 CR-V, saying its intent was to make it look more like an SUV. The concept gets beefy fender flares, a more aggressive-looking face and a lower front bumper. The CR-V Concept also gets large five-spoke machined alloy wheels and a more dramatic take on the CR-V's vertical taillights.

Honda said the concept introduces the "styling direction" for the CR-V.

The 2012 Honda CR-V will also get a new interior with an eye toward improving space, the automaker said.

Honda did not release powertrain or pricing details on the 2012 CR-V. But the automaker said in a statement that the CR-V "will feature a more fuel-efficient engine and reduced body weight."

The 2012 Honda CR-V will go on sale in the U.S. by the end of the year.

Honda sold 16,572 CR-Vs in the U.S. in August, reflecting an 18 percent drop versus August 2010, according to company sales numbers released earlier this month. However, Honda has sold 141,431 CR-Vs here year-to-date, reflecting an 11 percent increase over the same period in 2010.

Definitely need the limo black tint package on the option list.  Including the windshield as pictured.

Although I'm still partial to the utilitarian look of my '03, this is a huge improvement from the more feminine look of the current generation.  But why does Honda perpetuate the automotive trend of tapering the rear side glass to create a huge blind spot?

I like it! Good job Honda. Please stick with the concept as much as you can, and sales will skyrocket!

Love the lines, and make those nice rims optional

    Now about a V6 option(Accord)

This is the best-looking thing to come out of Honda in YEARS.

But it still has that small-side-window/huge-blind-spot thing going on between the C and D pillar.

Too little, too late...There are better alternatives out there. I owned a 2003 CRV for 8 years and liked it alot but all the later models just seemed like they were designed by accountants. I had decided to give Toyota a chance this year and I am very happy with my decision.

Would you stop going every single Honda's thread and posting your whining about bad transmission experience with Honda?  Your posts are so negative and depressing to read.  Would you get it over already?  Get a life and move on.

    Dear Volvo and Honda,

    Thanks for the inspiration.

    Sincerely, Honda.

Please note the location of the front brake calipers. Their placement behind the front axle centerline suggests a few possibilities:

    1) Honda has implemented a longitudinal SUV engine placement like audi and subaru.
    *spit take*

    2) Honda has somehow managed to place the steering rack ahead of the axle centerline despite the space constraints of the typical transverse 4-cylinder engine installation.
    *yeah, right*

    3) Honda has followed Hyundai by tweaking the brake location such that the steering rack fits on the same side as the caliper.
*improbable, but not outside the realm of possibility*

    4) This is truly a non-running concept car with no basis in mechanical reality.
*Bingo!! Spy photos show the caliper in the usual place IN FRONT of the axle.*

    Thanks for playing.

Slotted rotors are interesting but I don't see any exhaust system...(yes, I know it's a "concept")

Sorry but the headlights are pure Kia Sportage rip-offs.
