Mugen Euro Developing a Honda Civic Type R

    1 Rating
NORTHAMPTON, England — Mugen Euro Company, an affiliate of the Japanese Honda tuner Mugen, confirmed it is developing a Honda Civic Type R Mugen prototype but insists it has no immediate plans for production.

The European car will be based on the Civic Mugen RR that was introduced in Japan in 2007, and is being developed in Japan by Mugen Euro. Bear in mind, though, that the Mugen RR is based on the Japanese-specification Civic Type R sedan, which has an independent rear suspension, whereas Mugen Euro will be working with the U.K.-spec Civic Type R hatchback, a smaller car with a torsion beam holding up its rear end.

The Civic Type R Mugen prototype is slated to arrive later this year in the U.K. for further testing.

Mugen said the new car will get a tuned version of Honda's 2.0-liter i-VTEC four-cylinder engine, with increased power and torque. Mugen also will upgrade the suspension, brakes and exhaust, and will fit an aero body kit, including an oversize rear spoiler.
