FRANKFURT, Germany — After a prolonged striptease, Honda has finally released the first full photos of its latest-generation European Civic. The car, exclusively a five-door hatchback for the European market, will be produced at Honda's Swindon plant in the U.K., and goes on sale in early 2012.

Honda earlier said its redesigned Civic for Europe will feature a cleaner, more powerful four-cylinder diesel engine. The latest version of the i-DTEC engine will make 148 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.

Honda said the Civic redesign for Europe focuses on ride and handling, reduced CO2 emissions and improved interior quality.

I tell you why Honda has given up in giving us nicer looking models....it's because they think their poop doesn't stink. They're just like the French, they hate Americans. So they sell us ugly, overpriced junk.

I've been to Europe a couple of times over the past year--France & the Netherlands once each and Germany twice. There are perhaps two Hondas in France, three in the Netherlands, and five in Germany.

I think this looks a little better than what we get in the U.S. At least it's not boring.

    However: "Sensational styling"

    Seriously? Wow.

Why Honda thought that the Crosstour was a good idea, but doesn't think a Civic hatchback is for America is beyond me.

Japanese business is so very odd to me. Passion seems not to be in their thinking anymore, spreadsheets do.

"Are you guys serious?!?!  We already have that car/design here...it's called the "Honda Insight"...this thing is FUGLY..."

Are you blind? If you think this car looks the same as Insight, you have no sense of design.
Why Honda always releases good looking ones in Europe and ugly ones, including Acura, in U.S? They might have earned money too easily in U.S.

Are you guys serious?!?!  We already have that car/design here...it's called the "Honda Insight"...this thing is FUGLY...
But if you cannot resist then go buy the Insight and swap in a K20 or something...no difference in looks one bit...

The interior still looks horrible, with cheap quality materials/plastic all around:

However, I think the exterior is sportier than the US version, which should appeal to younger demographic that would otherwise consider the Golf or the Mazda 3:

Gotta disagree with most of the posters here. This redesign is NOT an improvement over the current hatch. The current one looks worlds better than this one. This looks like it stole its front end from the CR-V, it's fender flares from the Juke and its (egad!) taillights from the Prius. Come to think of it, it's horrendous. This is the first time I'm GLAD we're not getting the hatch.

I would consider this car if it came here, but since it's not, looks like a Mazda 3 hatch with SkyActiv for me.  Honda is definitely out of touch in the US, rather sad as my last two cars were Hondas and they've been good cars...
