LAS VEGAS — Honda used the 2011 SEMA Show to focus intently on its redesigned 2012 Civic Si coupe and sedan, showcasing different interpretations, from mild to wild, from several aftermarket tuners as well as Honda Factory Performance and Honda Performance Development.
The tuner cars were intriguing, to say the least.
The most outrageous creation was delivered by Bisimoto Engineering, which somehow managed to extract 1,004 horsepower from Honda's K24Z7 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine after a top-down rebuild that included Arias forged pistons and a Turbonetics turbocharger and intercooler. Bisimoto's hyper-performance take on the Civic Si coupe includes an Eibach coil suspension, Eins Gramm 18-inch aluminum wheels, Falken 215/35R18 tires, StopTech brakes, Gatorwrap custom laminated body wrap, Buddy Club P1 racing seats and harness, and a Steen roll cage.
Fox Marketing also tweaked the Civic Si coupe, applying a Borg-Warner EFR turbo kit to coax more than 450 hp from the K24Z7 engine. The Fox Civic also includes Vossen 20-inch brushed-aluminum wheels, Toyo Proxes 4 tires and a custom-built widebody conversion finished in BASF R-M Ultrasonic Blue Pearl.
SEMA stalwart Tjin Edition elected to transform a Civic Si sedan into a street-smart family hauler, right down to the Recaro kid seats in the rear. This daily driver features carbon-fiber grille, roof, wing and rear diffuser, Wraptivo custom wrap, RotiForm BLQ 19-inch candy-colored wheels shod with Falken low-profile rubber, Baer big brakes, Realm audio system and a custom black interior cabin by LR Interiors.
Among the factory offerings, Honda featured a 2012 Civic Si Coupe fitted with a limited-edition HFP package. Honda dealers have begun selling the kit, which is being offered in a limited run of 500 and bundles high-performance springs and dampers, 18-inch HFP alloy wheels and a full HFP aero body kit.
Honda also announced a racing performance-parts program for the Civic coupe, from Honda Performance Development. As featured on the Compass360 Racing HPD 2012 Civic Si Coupe Racecar, the HPD-designed parts and branded racing components are tailored for use in the SCCA World Challenge and Grand Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge and will be available in early 2012 as part of the Honda Racing Line.
While the Honda stand was a virtual Civic-fest, the automaker also paid modest lip service to the midsize Accord, with its Accord Coupe V6 HFP Concept. The showcar features a 335-hp supercharged 3.5-liter V6 and was built, according to Honda, to "demonstrate the performance potential of the Accord V6 coupe and to gauge consumer interest." Honda was quick to add that it "has no current production plans for the concept."
Stay tuned.

Lame, weak, so 1990s. Please, Honda, skip the SEMA next year and save the $$$ to hire better designers and managers...While you're at it, fire all your bean counters for reducing the once mighty Honda to a shell...Who's with me on this? Come on, all you now closet Honda followers who are too ashame to admit it; all secretly wishing that Honda should be like today's Hyundai or Kai?

I have a good friend that has never been much of an economy driver. She could never get any of her cars to live up to the EPA mileage rating. She recently bought the new 2012 Civic and at first thought the driver educating, color changing dashboard was "cute". Now, with the help of those cute colors, she is consistently hitting and occasionally exceeding the car's EPA rating. They might be cute, but they also work!

By far the biggest letdown in the new Civic is the interior, in my opinion. Very strange looking grain on the vast expanses of cheap plastic. Awkward looking dash/center stack. And as "Car and Driver" pointed out, Radio Shack-worthy electronic gimmickry in the instrument cluster. I wanted to like this car, but I don't think I can bring myself to write the check. Maybe Honda will hit the 10th Gen out of the park. Otherwise, they should give up in this segment.

I wouldn't mind that HFP Accord Coupe but with a different grill, the black interior and without the checker decal.
