2006 Sport Concept Honda Civic Si
What's Special About It?
Honda is back in the party. After virtually ignoring the Civic's enormous popularity with aftermarket tuners during the car's last generation, Honda has risen to the occasion with the new Civic Si. The company is so insistent that tuners should pay attention to the car there are 19 Civic Si coupes on the SEMA show floor — an impressive commitment both financially and strategically.
Of the 19, however, the showstopper is this wide-body Si called the Sport Concept and built by Honda itself. It uses a carbon-fiber rear diffuser, rear wing and side skirts, while its body has been widened 50mm with flared fenders. The modifications give it the wide, aggressive stance it needs to match its 25mm-lowered ride height. Honda was vague about the lowering, revealing only that it's a product of the "prototype track-tuned suspension."
Braking is by way of four-piston Brembo calipers front and rear. The wheel and tire package includes 19-inch Michelin Pilot Sport II tires and advanced concept design wheels.
The only other mechanical change is to the exhaust which exits in the center of the rear diffuser.
The Sport Concept's interior is filled with custom leather seats with inverted piping and red accents.
What's Edmunds' Take?
This is how the new Civic Si should look. With fat fenders, wide tires, huge brakes and an aggressive stance, Honda clearly knows how to style a concept car. If only the real Si could look this good. — Josh Jacquot
