    What's Special About It?
If you're interested in the Civic Si but you're not quite sure if it has what it takes to satisfy your thirst for performance, consider the new Honda Factory Performance (HFP) kit available through dealers come December. Its aggressively tuned springs and shocks lower the car a full inch in addition to sharpening its somewhat soft stock ride and handling. Lightweight 17-inch wheels are also part of the package along with high-performance 215/45 Yokohama tires. A rear spoiler and a full body aero kit are also included as is a HFP shift knob and interior carbon-fiber trim kit. Taken together, the HFP kit gives the Si the kind of look that its competitors have been sporting all along. Now the only question is whether it can put the Si back on top of a category chock full of worthy competitors.

    Why Should You Care?
When the Si made its return, Honda enthusiasts rejoiced at the idea of a modern version of the sport coupe that put Honda on the map when it came to affordable, fun-to-drive hatchbacks. Unfortunately, its soft handling and rather tame engine didn't give it the kind of sizzling performance it needed to fend off newer and more competent performers. The HFP kit should go a long way toward alleviating the Si's shortcomings, but at $4,000 retail it's not exactly a cheap fix. — Ed Hellwig
