- The 1994 Honda Accord tops the Most Stolen Vehicles for 2010 list, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau.
- The Accord is followed by the 1995 Honda Civic and the 1991 Toyota Camry in the number two and three spots.
- The Honda Accord and Civic are targets of car thieves because the engines are popular with street racers who use stolen engines to replace blown engines, according to the report.
DES PLAINES, Illinois — The 1994 Honda Accord continues to be the favorite vehicle of car thieves, topping the Most Stolen Vehicles list compiled by the National Insurance Crime Bureau for the third year in a row.
The 1995 Honda Civic is the 2nd most popular vehicle for car thieves, according to the list which was released on Tuesday. It is followed by the 1991 Toyota Camry in the 3rd spot.
The Hondas are stolen for their parts — primarily engines. The engines are popular with street racers who use stolen engines to replace blown engines, according to the report.
Despite the popularity of Japanese vehicles with car thieves, six domestic vehicles also made the top 10 list. The list also includes the 1999 Chevrolet pickup, 1997 Ford F-150, 2004 Dodge Ram, 2000 Dodge Caravan, 1994 Acura Integra, 2002 Ford Explorer and 1999 Ford Taurus.
"Nationally — and for the first time since 2002 — thieves preferred domestic makes over foreign brands," the report said. "However, the top three positions continue to be held by Honda and Toyota models, a trend that has been consistent since 2000."
Older cars and trucks dominate the list because they are easier to steal, the report noted.
Inside Line says: If you drive a 17-year-old Honda Accord, you're the prime target of car thieves.

I guess it's a good thing there is room in my garage for my 17 year old beater Accord. I'm not in the postion to buy a new car for a couple of more months.

Aww, crap. Well, that definitely explains my car insurance premiums. This is the reason I lock my doors and park close to stores.

@gmhl10
Ok.. I can see that I guess. So you suppose that in 17 years the most stolen cars will be the 2011 models of the same vehicles?

@coloradosilver
If you take a closer look at the top 10 list, Honda and Toyota's security measures probably have improved.
Any of the Honda and Toyota cars on the list are all from the early 90's.
Ford and Dodge on the other hand...

Maybe instead of trying to be competition in the boring everyday car competition, Honda and Toyota should see who can start putting in the best, effective, and lowest cost security systems challenge. Now that could lead to some head to head reviews that have potential to be entertaining, and useful.
