SEALY, Texas — Texas tuner John Hennessey marks his 20th anniversary with a special-edition HPE650 Camaro.
Hennessey Performance is building a limited run of 20 cars, all rendered in black paint with black leather interiors. Based on the 2012 Camaro 2SS/RS, the HPE650 can be ordered as a coupe priced from $79,500 or a convertible priced from $84,500.
Hennessey squeezes 655 horsepower from the Camaro's supercharged 6.2-liter V8 — good enough to produce 0-60 acceleration in an eyeball-sucking 3.7 seconds. The quarter-mile is accomplished in 11.7 seconds at 122 mph.
The Hennessey HPE650 Anniversary Camaro can be ordered with either a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox.
The engine upgrades include a TVS2300 supercharger, HPE induction system, high-flow cylinder heads, new cam, high-flow fuel injectors, recalibrated ECU and stainless-steel headers with high-flow catalytic converters.
Hennessey also fits a coilover suspension kit that drops ride height by an inch, as well as a carbon-fiber front splitter and side skirts and monoblock wheels finished in chrome or silver.
The cockpit gets embroidered headrests, special floor mats and a serial-numbered dash plaque.

It's nice to see little bro grow up. Hennessey has a great reputation and what a wonderful way to celebrate his 20th anniversary with a special-edition HPE650 Camaro.
Also, it's good to see IL finally take Chevy seriously. There are so many great new Chevy articles.

Stick with factory.... Aftermarket tuner cars always just come off 2nd rate and cheap.

Thanks but I'll wait for the real deal and save some dough too...Not to mention better equipped, better looking, more power, etc...

Not to mention the side effects of after-market force induction combined with mostly cosmetic handling upgrades.

In this day and age, with so many manufacturers offering factory tuned versions, I just don't think I could justify going to an outside tuner.
The Camaro is a perfect example. The factory ZL1 is right around the corner, and will probably sticker in the low 50's, so even if you wanted to do a better suspension, brakes, etc, it would still be much less.
I'm not saying that I don't think independant tuners should exist, we need them to push the cars limits and to show the manufacturers that people want these cars.
