INGOLSTADT, Germany — Gumpert will introduce an enhanced version of its street-legal racing car at this year's Geneva auto show. The car is the sport version of the Apollo that made its debut last year at the same show.

Already in 2006, the Gumpert Apollo looked to be a worthy competitor to the Porsche 911 GT3. The Apollo sport reaches an even higher level with an engine tuned to 800-plus horsepower, enabling the 2,690-pound two-seater to go from zero to 62 mph in 3 seconds and reach a top speed of 224 mph.

Roland Gumpert, former chief of Audi's Quattro division, which was responsible for many of the company's rally efforts, and Audi tuner Roland Mayer set up Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur a few years ago to create the ultimate road-going racing car. Their Apollo was praised by the international press. Powered by a 4.2-liter V8 engine, it has a claimed top speed of more than 200 mph.

Although its exterior looks purposeful, the Apollo sport's interior puts special emphasis on comfort with Alcantara leather, air-conditioning, a CD player and other niceties.

The Apollo Sport is priced at the equivalent of $389,400.
