NEW YORK — At this week's 2009 New York Auto Show, General Motors' GMC brand is unveiling its third full-size gas-electric model, the 2009 GMC Yukon Denali Hybrid — essentially a fancier edition of the standard Yukon Hybrid.
The eight-passenger Yukon Denali Hybrid features GM's dual-mode hybrid system and, like its sibling, is rated by the EPA at 21 mpg in city driving. GMC also sells the full-size Sierra Hybrid pickup.
The Denali Hybrid has a 332-horsepower 6.0-liter V8 and has two electric motors packaged in the transmission. MagnaRide suspension and stability control are standard.
The big sport-ute rides on unique 22-inch eight-spoke chrome wheels. Other Denali amenities include power heated/cooled perforated-leather front seats, a navigation system, a rear camera and a Bose surround-sound audio system.
The Yukon Denali Hybrid goes on sale next month, priced at $59,185 for the two-wheel-drive version and $62,030 for the four-wheel-drive version. The cost includes a $950 shipping charge.
Inside Line says: It appears there are still people out there who will pay any price to get better mileage — even in a full-size SUV. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
