The five-passenger Terrain, which shares a platform with the Equinox, the Cadillac SRX and the Saab 9-4X, arrives in showrooms in September. The front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions of the Terrain carry a $1,810 premium over the Equinox.
The base 2010 GMC Terrain with all-wheel drive is priced at $26,745, including shipping. The base 2010 Chevrolet Equinox with all-wheel drive starts at $24,935, including shipping.
GMC said the base Terrain gets such standard features as a rearview camera system and six-speaker AM/FM/CD audio with USB connectivity and XM satellite radio. The base Terrain SLE1 model gets the standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine linked to a six-speed automatic transmission.
The EPA says the 2010 GMC Terrain FWD returns 22 miles per gallon in city driving and 32 mpg on the highway.
Inside Line says: GMC holds the line under $25K for the new Terrain but still prices it a bit higher than the Chevrolet Equinox. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
