2009 GMC Sierra Hybrid
Base MSRP: $39,365 (RWD); $45,500 (4WD)
EPA fuel economy (city/highway): 21 mpg/22 mpg (RWD); 20 mpg/20 mpg (4WD)
Just like the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid, the Sierra Hybrid uses the same two-mode technology and the same 6.0-liter V8 to return the same fuel economy. With the arrival of the Dodge Ram Hybrid sometime next year, the Sierra and Silverado will have some competition in the high-mpg pickup game. Ford has announced no plans to produce a hybrid F-150, opting instead for a turbocharged, direct-injected V6 to balance performance and fuel economy.
2009 GMC Yukon Hybrid
Base MSRP: $51,870 (RWD); $54,680 (4WD)
EPA fuel economy (city/highway): 21 mpg/22 mpg (RWD); 20 mpg/20 mpg (4WD)
Like the 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid, the GMC Yukon Hybrid incorporates lightweight seats and aluminum body panels to trim a few pounds, and both use the stonking 6.0-liter V8 to motivate that slightly lighter weight. The choice between the two comes down to which dealer is closer to your house or which headlight design you prefer.
