DETROIT — In the run up to the 2010 Detroit Auto Show, GM began teasing its GMC Granite Concept on one of its corporate blogs last night.
In the blog post, Frank Saucedo, who heads GM's advanced design studio outside Los Angeles, says the vehicle is "as efficient as it is chic, innovative as it is functional."
Saucedo further explains: "Our goal was to create the next generation of urban mobility, fusing a flexible, functional social space with an urban-box design that's equally at home at the cabin or the club."
One of the images on the blog shows a line drawing overlapping the Granite with the GMC Terrain and the Scion xB. The Granite is substantially smaller than the Terrain, and nearly identical in size to the xB.
We'll have a detailed report — including full images of the vehicle — from next week's auto show.
Inside Line says: Let's hope this concept will make a more convincing case to keep the GMC brand around than GM executives have so far. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent

The Granite is a great looking vehicle! A plug in version would be a sale for me.
GM quality is outstanding. My 4 Buicks have convinced me. The alloy brake parts.. stainless steel exhausts... onstar... activated charcoal cabin filters... galvanized metal bodies... etc... etc.. have convinced me. My last GM was 17 years old and still had it's original exhaust , no rust and still looked and ran great when I drove it to the dealer to trade it in. I will be in the market for a Granite PlugIn for my next GM.

"Buick is popular in China, go figure?"
China is 1 billion people and they are see Buick as a luxury car. To ignore a huge market that large is ignorant. The 60's glory days of Pontiac are long, long gone. Aging Baby Boomers, with negative views of Buick, do not dictate tastes anymore.
GMC makes $$$, Pontiacs sold at a loss to rental firms. The loyalists only buy old collector Pontiacs. The G8 bombed, not enough base V6 models sold to support the hot V8. Get over it, the 60's may as well be the 1920s-30's, in this new decade.

Why is GMC still around? GM should have had Chevy, Pontiac, and Cadillac. Done. Trying to make Buicks exciting is not as easy as making Pontiacs exciting again. Although Buick is selling like hot cakes in China. Go figure.

GMC should stick with trucks and not make a Jeep compass look alike

Just like Jeep how now they make crap like the Compass...
I Think this is supposed to be a Compass competitor.
GMC is losing its way faster than I thought.

Used to be "Professional Grade Trucks". WTF happened to GMC? I'm all for this kind of vehicle, but leave that to divisions of GM where a vehicle like this makes sense. My image of GMC is steadily going down hill, starting with the Terrain (not as much animosity for the Terrain as this vehicle though).
GMC, stick to what you make best...TRUCKS. You should distance yourself from GM as Ram has done from Dodge.
Of course that's just my opinion.
