GMC: What's New for 2010

    3 Ratings

2010 GMC Acadia: The eight-passenger crossover continues as before with the addition of a USB port for the premium-level audio systems. Chrome-finished 20-inch wheels can be had if you're looking to arrive in style. Both front- and all-wheel-drive variants continue to be available.

2010 GMC Canyon: Not much has changed in the 3/4-size Canyon since the S10 name went away, but then that's the story with pickup trucks anyway. New technology has appeared and it's become affordable. So the 2010 Canyon pickup features standard curtain airbags on all models. The ZQ3 Sport Suspension package is also available across a greater number of trim levels.

2010 GMC Savana: Sometimes change is unnecessary.

2010 GMC Sierra 1500/2010 GMC Sierra 1500 Hybrid: For 2010 the Sierra gets eco-friendly with E85 fuel capability for the 4.8-liter V6, 5.3-liter V8 and 6.2-liter V8, while both the V6 and small V8 get variable valve timing for a broader power band. Regular-cab and extended-cab models with the 5.3-liter V8 get a six-speed transmission as well as a taller 3.08:1 final-drive ratio to improve fuel economy. Side curtain head-protection airbags as well as seat-mounted side airbags are now standard equipment. A USB port is part of all the audio systems except the base-model radios. And finally the rearview back-up camera is more widely available across the various trim levels.

2010 GMC Sierra 2500 HD/2010 GMC Sierra 3500 HD: The heavy-duty Silverado continues as before in its range of three cab styles, three cargo-box configurations and five wheelbase lengths.

2010 GMC Terrain: GMC shares the new crossover platform also seen at Cadillac and Chevrolet and adapts its outdoors flavor to this street-oriented package. The vehicle is light enough to aspire to self-propulsion with a 2.4-liter inline-4, although the crucial statistic here is not its 0-60-mph acceleration but instead its ability to achieve an EPA-rated fuel economy of 32 mpg highway for front-wheel-drive models. A direct-injected 3.0-liter V6 is probably the sensible choice, though.

The Terrain comes in SLE and SLT trim levels. Stability control is standard equipment, as are curtain airbags and side airbags. In terms of luxury amenities, a programmable rear liftgate is standard equipment, as are a rearview camera, Bluetooth telephone compatibility, a USB port, a hard-drive-based navigation system, a rear-seat DVD entertainment system and a sliding rear seat to expand passenger space or optimize cargo capacity.

2010 GMC Yukon/2010 GMC Yukon XL: The truck-based sport-utility seems out of fashion, yet no other vehicle delivers the wide range of everyday utility and recreation capability. The 5.3-liter V8 now incorporates variable valve timing for a broader power band. The Yukon XFE model introduced for 2009 offers an EPA rating of 21 mpg highway. The XFE 4WD now has a single-speed transfer case, although a two-speed transfer case is still optional.

2010 GMC Yukon Denali/2010 GMC Yukon Denali XL: Yukon Denali models are distinguished by more luxurious detailing and equipment levels. The 5.3-liter V8 for the Denali now has not only variable valve timing but also cylinder deactivation and a taller 3.08:1 rear axle ratio to deliver better fuel economy with variable valve timing and compatibility with E85 fuel, while 4WD versions are equipped with just a single-speed transfer case (the off-road dual-range version is an option).

2010 GMC Yukon Hybrid/2010 GMC Yukon Denali Hybrid: The Yukon Hybrid has been joined by a Denali edition, which offers a 50 percent improvement in EPA-rated city fuel economy compared to the conventional Yukon with 21 mpg. Aside from the two-mode hybrid powertrain, the Yukon Denali Hybrid has the usual upgraded Denali Appearance package plus 22-inch chrome wheels. Leather-upholstered, heated/cooled front seats are 12-way power-adjustable and even heated second-row seats are available. The only three options are a sunroof, blind-spot alert outside mirrors, and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system.
