    Just the Facts:
    • The 2011 GMC Sierra All-Terrain HD Concept ups the off-road ante for the full-size truck and hints at the future design direction of GMC trucks.
    • It gets an enhanced suspension, increased ground clearance and a wider track.
    • While not giving the green light for production just yet, GMC says that while it's "strictly a concept, it is a pretty realistic one."

DETROIT — In a refreshing change of pace from what promises to be a "green" 2011 Detroit Auto Show, GM on Thursday took the wraps off the beefy GMC Sierra All-Terrain HD Concept. The body-on-frame concept truck — a serious off-roader — is designed to take the new HD platform to "the next level," says GMC.

GMC isn't confirming that the concept is bound for production, but it appears to be fairly ready for the road. "Although it is strictly a concept, it is a pretty realistic one," said Lisa Hutchinson, GMC product marketing director in a statement.

GMC said the four-wheel-drive concept, with its striking streamlined look, hints at the future design direction of GMC trucks.

The concept is equipped with the new, production 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel V8 linked to an Allison 1000 six-speed automatic transmission. It delivers 397 horsepower.

The new 2011 Sierra HD underpins the concept, which is shorter in overall length than production Sierra HD models. The concept gets an enhanced suspension, increased ground clearance and a wider track. The concept gets a unique 5-foot, 8-inch crew cab/short box body style. Other details include front and rear jounce shocks, and 35-inch BFGoodrich "mud terrain" tires mounted on 20-inch machined aluminum wheels. The streamlined bumpers have a practical bent and are designed to enhance approach and departure angles.

The rear of the concept has lockable, lighted storage compartments and a non-slip rubber pad on the tailgate. The composite bedliner has a "circuit board" pattern.

The concept has an Iridium Metallic paint job. It is a dark charcoal color with a reddish tint. The cabin gets stainless-steel mesh and satin chrome trim and a new navigation radio that GMC says "previews future radios to be offered in GMC vehicles." It provides greater storage of music from portable devices and features a "time-lapse playback," which allows up to 20 minutes of recording/playback from the AM/FM/XM stations.

Nice looking truck!  I will be purchasing a new truck in about a year.  Contacted GMC and doesn't look like this is in the works.  Hope they change their mind.  Other option is Dodge Power Wagon but wish it had a diesel.  Raptors are selling like hotcakes around here but I'm not much for the looks of it tho the 6.2 V8 is nice and it does very well off road.  GMC, you should build this truck!!!

"LOL! I noticed the "Ram box" was lifted from the Chevy Avalance and cleverly named "Ram box" for people such as yourself. Dodge is not that innovative."

Agreed! GM's version looks so much cleaner. They maintained much more space in the bed. I haven't seen a Ram Box yet that didn't look like the lid wasn't shaped right.

The overall look of this truck is very good. The grille is huge, but not overdone like the disgusting nose of the Super Duty. Every time I see a new Super Duty, I think of the Honda Pilot. Ford is using way too much cheap plasti-chrome that will only start to blister and peel in a few years.

"Talk about ugly, disgusting, and hideous all rolled into one concept. Good thing its never going to become a production vehicle.

Did you notice the "Ram box"?

No way will it be as capable as the Raptor. Its to big and heavy."

I think this is actually a tasteful looking HD, compared to a Raptor...however, it may not be as FAST as a Raptor...but should be more capable than a Raptor in towing with its diesel engine.

I think they should just make a Chevy version now, because I can see Chevy dealers begging for this to be on their lots as well...smh.

Now THIS is the truck GMC should be making.  Forget all this Denali garbage...GM already has 2 other luxury brands, GMC does not need to be the third.  Look at the success Jeep is experiencing pushing an off-road capable product.  People, myself included still love big, tough, trucks able to hold there own when the pavement ends.  The Raptor is an amazing truck, but its built for the desert.  This BA GMC would be sweet up here in the north.

I really think this is the direction GMC should go.  Hummer was a bit over the top, but this is just right.
