What Is It?
GMC Canyon AT4 Concept
What's Special About It?
This decked-out GMC Canyon has everything you need for a true backcountry adventure. Most noticeable is the cargo rail system that provides plenty of room to haul a couple kayaks without sacrificing bed space. There's also an integrated tonneau cover that can be pulled closed to create a secure, all-weather storage compartment. An aftermarket bedliner and a bed extender are the final touches on this all-purpose utility system.
The truck itself is a four-wheel-drive crew cab model with the 3.5-liter Vortec five-cylinder that cranks out 220 horsepower. A raised suspension and extended wheel flares give it a more aggressive stance while unique paint, a body-colored grille and custom wheels add some flash. Look inside the cabin and there's a roll-back cloth sunroof for maximum outdoor exposure along with an all-weather material that covers most of the interior surfaces that resists water and sunlight. There's also a premium Bose sound system specifically designed to take advantage of the truck's unique acoustics.
Why Should You Care?
When GMC designed the Canyon it did so with the notion that most small truck buyers buy such vehicles for personal rather than professional use. To that end the engineers and designers concentrated on making the truck comfortable and capable in a wider variety of environments. The AT4 shows one direction that GMC could go when it comes to factory options that would bolster the truck's reputation as a well-rounded weekend getaway vehicle. Ed Hellwig
