Consider 2009 a rebuilding year for GMC. There are no new models and only minor changes to the existing lineup. Both the Sierra pickup and Yukon SUV get six-speed automatic transmissions, while the strong-selling Acadia receives a slight bump in power thanks to the addition of direct injection. A V8 is now available in the compact Canyon pickup for the first time, and the 6.2-liter V8 in the Denali is now rated at 403 horsepower.

2009 GMC Acadia: There are a few minor upgrades for the 2009 GMC Acadia. The standard 3.6-liter V6 gets direct injection, which raises output to 288 hp and allows for a maximum towing capacity of 5,200 pounds, a 700-pound increase. A new version of OnStar offers turn-by-turn navigation and downloadable directions along with Bluetooth connectivity. The standard XM Satellite Radio has been upgraded with real-time traffic capability. Heated and cooled front seats are now optional, along with a rearview camera system that can be ordered separately from the navigation system. There are two new exterior colors: Quicksilver Metallic and Silver-Green Metallic. Blue-Gold Crystal Metallic and Liquid Silver Metallic are no longer available.

2009 GMC Canyon: The 2009 GMC Canyon received only minor upgrades this year. For the first time, a 300-hp 5.3-liter V8 is optional on extended-cab and crew-cab models. The base four-cylinder engine gets a revised fuel system for improved mileage. All models get an upgraded brake system, stability control and a bedliner. A new ZQ8 sport suspension is available with the V8 engine that lowers the truck and adds 18-inch wheels, low-profile tires and several cosmetic enhancements. Base models have been upgraded with 16-inch steel wheels, carpet and cloth seats. There are two new exterior colors, Aqua Blue and Navy Blue, that replace Midnight Blue Metallic and Sport Blue.

2009 GMC Envoy/Envoy Denali: There are only two changes on the 2009 GMC Envoy and Envoy Denali. Bluetooth connectivity is now available and there are three new colors: Quicksilver Metallic, Sand Beige Metallic and Silver-Green Metallic. Liquid Silver Metallic, Medium Brown Metallic and Silver Mist Metallic are no longer available.

2009 GMC Savana: The 2009 GMC Savana full-size van gets only minor changes for 2009. Electronic stability control and 17-inch wheels are now standard on all half-ton models. Vans with the V6 engine get a standard engine-oil cooler, while 5.3-liter V8-equipped models get a GCWR bump to 7,300 pounds and a higher-capacity alternator. A fast idle option has also been added to models with the 6.0-liter V8. Any model with a GCWR above 14,000 pounds gets a standard transmission oil cooler.

2009 GMC Sierra: The big news for the 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 is the addition of a six-speed automatic transmission on models with the 5.3-, 6.0- and 6.2-liter V8. Previously available only on the Sierra Denali, the 6.2-liter engine is now optional on SLT crew cabs. Electronic stability control is now standard on all V8-powered Sierras. A new XFE trim level has been added for 2WD crew-cab models that offers a 7 percent increase in city driving and a 5 percent increase in highway mileage thanks to reduced weight (aluminum suspension arms and wheels); improved aerodynamics (standard tonneau cover, lower front airdam, reduced ride height suspension); and a standard six-speed automatic transmission. The optional equipment list for all models now includes redesigned 18- and 20-inch chrome wheels, Bluetooth connectivity, XM Satellite Radio with real-time traffic and a rearview camera system that does not require the factory navigation system. New colors for the Sierra 1500 include Carbon Black Metallic and Midnight Blue Metallic. Deep Blue Metallic and Medium Brown Metallic are no longer available.
