- Geely will show an updated version of the GE luxury car at the Beijing show.
- A GE concept was shown last year at the Shanghai auto show.
- The production GE will be sold under Geely's new Emgrand sub-brand.
BEIJING — Geely stunned not only its Chinese domestic rivals, but most western automakers at last year's Shanghai auto show when it pulled the wraps off the GE, a large, luxurious and ostentatious sedan that had ambitions to be China's answer to Rolls-Royce.
As the 2010 Beijing Auto Show opens this week, Geely is bringing back an updated version of the GE, showing much more refinement — and just as much audacity.
The latest version of the GE — the company says the letters denote "Geely Excellence" — has received a substantial overhaul inside and out and, although still quite opulent, doesn't look nearly as British as last year's concept.
The production GE will be sold under Geely's new Emgrand sub-brand. Unlike the Roller that inspired last year's showcar, this one won't get a 12-cylinder engine. Instead, it is expected to be powered by a modest 3.5-liter V6 — about half the size of the 6.75-liter V12 that propels the Phantom.

Baleen Whale as design inspiration. The krillmobiles like Smart, MINI, Fit are now history with the Geely GE on the road.

Look...it has "bluetooth"....don't believe me - just look on the steering wheel. Ok, seriously we all know that China will (and is) a force to be recokend with. However you would think they would take a leap ahead of the mistakes the West has made in the past. Obviously this is an example where they believe that they need to retrace every error we have made.

Whoa! A new competitor for the world's ugliest car contest. The Pontiac Aztek is getting nervous!
Geely has some bizarre ideas of "good-looking" though, as anyone who has seen a photo of their "Beauty Leopard" sports coupe will attest. It's by no means beautiful, and looks more like a mangled 1st generation Hyundai Tiburon than a leopard:

I guess no one will be planning to drive this sci-fi monster very fast, with a 3.5 litre V-6 to haul around what is likely over 5,000 lbs of bloated steel. I doubt that R-R is very worried.
