Toyota Pedal Recall Update #11: Ford Halts Van Production in China, Uses Same Supplier as Toyota

BEIJING — Ford has halted production of the diesel-powered Transit commercial van in China because the vehicles use an accelerator pedal made by CTS Corp., the same supplier at the center of Toyota's recall of 2.3 million vehicles in the U.S.

Shanghai Daily.com reported that Ford partner Jiangling Motors said there have been no reported problems with the Transit Classic, but it is conducting a review of the pedal assembly part to determine the next step. The diesel Transit Classic is Ford's only vehicle that contains gas pedal parts made by CTS.

Only about 1,600 of the Ford vehicles have been made. The vehicles are sold only in China.

CTS also supplies pedals to Chrysler, Honda, Nissan and Mitsubishi, according to media reports. But the components reportedly aren't the same as Toyota's because they are made to the individual automaker's specifications.
