    Just the Facts:
    • Ford's 2011 Ranger pickup debuted at the 2010 Sydney Auto Show this week.
    • The 2011 Ford Ranger is built on a new global compact truck platform.
    • New Ranger will be sold in 180 countries, but not the U.S.

SYDNEY, Australia — Ford has officially unveiled its all-new 2011 Ranger pickup here at the 2010 Sydney Auto Show. The new Ranger, like its sibling the Mazda BT-50, is built on a new global compact truck platform — global, except for the North American market.

Ford said the new Ranger eventually will be sold in more than 180 countries on five continents. The U.S. is not one of them. The Ranger, which was engineered primarily in Australia, will go into production shortly at the Ford/Mazda Auto Alliance plant in Rayong, Thailand, and eventually will be assembled in Argentina and South Africa.

Ford plans to offer three body styles including a Double Cab as well as 4x2 and 4x4 configurations. New Duratorq TDCi diesel engines include a 2.2-liter four-cylinder rated at 150 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque and a 3.2-liter five-cylinder that makes 200 hp and 347 lb-ft. New six-speed manual and automatic transmissions are offered as well.

Among the advanced technologies available on the new Ranger are Rearview Camera System, Rear Park Assist, Trailer Sway Control and Adaptive Load Control.

I was in the Philippines last month and I saw a new Ford Ranger that look a lot like the one in picture. The biggest difference is I noticed is it was white with some very nice rims on it. It was a very nice looking truck. I also noticed that Mitsubishi and Toyota had small pick-up trucks that looked just like it. they all had that same updated new look. And they all looked alike. But the Ford stood out because it was the one with a dark tent with rims. It looked really nice. I remember reading an artical here back in August about the Ford being buit for over seas but not for here. But that like that article, it also stated that the Ford is coming. In the Philippines, it is already out and about.

My first vehicle was a Ford Ranger.. Tho I did want a F150 at the time, I settled with the Ranger. That was 10 years ago, and I'll tell you this, best small pickup ever made. Since 2005 Ive been saving up for a new Ranger. Once news got out about the t6 ranger, I pretty much decided to buy the T6 Ranger once it came out... But no, Ford does not want my business, sad really..  Who wants the option of choosing a nice looking mid size pickup, or that nasty overly tacky f150? You aren't giving your customers much of an alternative, buy our F150 or go to some other company and give them your money, and thats exactly what I'm going to do. Ive been a loyal ranger fan for a very long time, and by killing off the ranger in the states, your pretty much killing your chances to get a one-up on your competitors with a small fuel efficient truck, esp when gas prices that will break $5 a gallon in the next few years. No one wants your new f150, its just that ugly, sorry Ford.

Maybe the JEEP PICKUP will return ! Some company may see that there is a market for small practical utility style trucks without a 1000 lbs of chrome and other useless junk attached!!

Really? They won't at least send 50,000 over just to see how many sell?? I'm sure they all would. The car is even styled after some of Ford's U.S. products anyways (Fusion & Edge especially).

Nice truck... I want one. Ford have taken some time to get smoe of their nicer vehicles to the US,  but they do sometimes make it, like the great new Focus and Fiesta from Europe.

Let's hope they don't bring the ugly-as-sin Mazda version of this truck....

It's hard to belive it's the same truck. You really have to go out of your way to mess up a great design that much.

Let's hope that Ford will run the numbers again, perhaps after the Argentine assembly effort is underway.  I think that the new Ranger could open a new market for Ford.

The company may feel that it would pirate sales from the F-Series.  They migh be correct.  I dunno.

This is the sexiest Ranger ever, and it isn't coming stateside? Really, all previous Rangers were either hags or plain janes. This thing is almost a centerfold. If Ford had tried to sell something as hot as this here, they never would have contemplated discontinuing the Ranger name in the U.S. What a bunch of morons.

This is a stupid move on Ford because not eveyrone needs or wants (me included) a full size truck, and this Ranger is one great looking mid-size truck! Too bad we seem to always get the shaft when it comes to vehicle offerings...(sigh)

This is a shame.  Especially considering it will have a diesel.

I'll bet the US didn't even come in at 181st place.

You know what the US is  #1 in?  Rejection.  What hurts the most is that, in this case, we are being rejected by a US company.

Compact trucks are popular all over the world, but apparently not in the US.

If the Japanese and North Koreans, not to mention Europeans, can import cars to the US from their home countries, why can't Ford import the Ranger from Thailand, Argentina or South Africa?

I think Ford is making a big mistake.  I guess I am missing the big picture.
