WASHINGTON — Ford is recalling 23,688 2010 Ford Ranger trucks equipped with the 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine because of a potential fire hazard due to fuel line chafe, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
"The engine fuel line in the area of the throttle body shield may not have a protective cover properly installed," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "If the protective (cover) on the fuel line is not assembled in the proper position, the edge of the shield may contact the fuel line. Over time, this contact may chafe the fuel line, resulting in a fuel odor and a potential fuel leak. A sufficient fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire."
In other documentation filed with the federal government, Ford said it is not aware of any fires related to this condition.
Ford dealers will trim the throttle-body shield away from the fuel line and inspect the fuel line for wear and replace the line, if necessary. The recall is expected to begin on March 7. Owners can contact Ford at (866) 436-7332.

Edmunds nor the Lienerts won't report negetive views on import badged vehicles unless they absolutely have to.
Part of their image is to bash American nameplates while promoting imports.
Just like consumer reports.
Ex; They hate the Pontiac Vibe, Geo Prizm, and Ford Ranger. But love the Recall Motors (toyota) Matrix, Corolla, and mazda b2300.

Guess it's time for a redesign, whoops, they already did that but it's not sold here!

And why aren't the Mazda's B2300 effected?

"Are you serious? A vehicle that has not been redesigned WHTSOEVER since 1997 has a recall for a fire hazard?"
Couple of errors with that statement:
1. The 2.3L motor in the ranger was added in ~2002, it is the Mazda designed 2.3L motor. So yes, the ranger has seen some form of upgrade since 1997.
2. This recall was not for a design problem but an installation problem. Try reading the article again.
No I am not trying to stick up for the Ranger, I will be happy when it is gone...

HAHA, I thought the exact same thing. Except my version went, "A vehicle that hasn't changed since 1970 has been recalled for a fire hazard?!"
