CORONA, California — Steve Saleen's SMS Supercars is expanding its muscle-car portfolio with the addition of the new 302 White and Yellow Label Mustangs, priced from $35,540 and $45,540, respectively. An ultimate SMS 302 Black Label Mustang is also planned, but is not yet priced.
SMS said the White, Yellow and Black Label Mustangs represent Steve Saleen's former racing colors. The 62-year-old Californian raced earlier in his career, including stints in Formula Atlantic, Trans-Am and SCCA World Challenge.
The basic 302 White Label Mustang features a 440-horsepower naturally aspirated V8, with performance suspension and exhaust, interior upgrades and an exterior aero kit. The midlevel 302 Yellow Label Mustang adds 19-inch SMS wheels and performance tires, plus a 545-hp supercharged engine.
The 302 Black Label Mustang packages the S4 suspension, leather interior, more aero exterior bits and a higher-output 575-hp engine.

I doubt it'll be $35K. By the time it hits dealers it'll be $45K easy. Also no dealers sell the new Shelby GT500's for under $60K. Most are $65K to 75K & more depending on city & state, & frankly the GT500 is not that good in the twistys & for $65K+ it should be very good in all areas. Whatever happened to the SMS 351X? Did that get axed? Is SMS even still in business? His website hasnt been updated since last year. Cant afford to update I guess. Still, the SMS Stangs look better than the kit looking Roushs, always have since Saleen started & Roush got into the car sales game, so not much changed there. Roushs do look better than the new Saleens though.Theyre horrible. Steve Saleens SMS def. got the better looking car there.

Why would someone go for the White label over a Boss 302? They seem similar in spec and do dads...
..Saleen ( or for that matter Roush) does not have the same cachet as Shelby........but Shelby's do seem a bit too expensive........
....The Mach 1 hasn't even hit yet and then another Mustang Cobra or another Bullit.................How many more versions can they find a market for ? Especially with gas prices .....and what? 440hp isnt really enough? gimme a frkn break.

@vantageman: the word really is "cachet." Cache is where you hide your food to keep the bears from eating it when camping.

IMHO, the Saleens look much better than the Shelbys. Too bad they're outta my price range.

Im confused first off garrym its "cache" secondly "NO" mustang has cache......Shelby or not that word and mustang should not be in the same sentence. As far as the price this car is really no more expensive than a regular GT a GT will easily run about 40,000 loaded well equipped for maybe 35,000 the shelby is what 50,000 the Saleen splits the difference.

So why would I want to pay thousands more for Steve Sallen to upgrade my Mustang when the aftermarket offers parts just as good as what he offers for probably a lot less? Oh yeah, so I can say its a Saleen Musstang. Doesn't have the cachet of Shelby. I'll pass.

$35K seems like a good deal for the 302 white lable. That's what, like $5,000 more than a base GT? You could spec a GT from Ford out to be more than that, and I doubt it would be as good as the SMS one.
(I'm assuming it's not $35K on top of a new GT).

You know, if there was one thing the Mustang was missing, was yet another iteration.
