SCOTTSDALE, Arizona — The results of the 2010 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction were released late Wednesday, and the Ford Mustang proved to be one of the most popular vehicles to cross the auction block. Ironically though, the top seller was a 1929 Hamilton Metalplane H-47 that fetched $671,000.
The auction house, serving as a leading automotive indicator of economic conditions, reported $68 million in total sales, an 11 percent increase versus the 2009 Scottsdale event.
A 1964 Shelby Cobra Roadster was the top-selling car, commanding a $478,500 price. A 1963 Shelby Cobra Roadster took the No. 3 slot in the top 10 list, fetching $401,500.
Four Mustangs made the top 10 list, including the 2011 Ford Mustang GT glass-roof coupe that brought $300,000. A 2008 Ford Mustang FR500S fastback racing car fetched $275,000, a 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429 fastback brought $275,000 and a 1967 Ford Mustang custom fastback commanded $253,000.
The other vehicles in the top 10 list included a 1935 Cadillac Series 40 Fleetwood Imperial convertible that brought $302,500, a 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird two-door hardtop that sold for $286,000 and a 1952 Watson Roadster Custom by Blastolene that fetched $280,500.
