- Ford sold 8,974 Mustangs in June.
- Chevy sold 7,540 Camaros in the same month.
- Camaro is more than 6,000 units ahead of the Mustang in annual 2010 sales.
DETROIT — The pony race for sales continues with the Ford Mustang gaining on the Chevrolet Camaro. The Mustang overtook the Camaro in June, and the Camaro's percentage decline in June was nearly the same amount that the Mustang gained in sales.
But the Camaro remains significantly ahead of the Mustang for the first six months of the year.
In June, Ford sold 8,974 Mustangs, which includes the new 2011 version. That was a nearly 18 percent increase from June 2009.
General Motors sold 7,540 Camaro models in June, a 19 percent decline from a year ago. The 2011 Camaro went into production in early June, with minimal changes over the all-new 2010 model.
Inside Line says: The halftime score is 46,378 Camaro models sold to 40,035 Mustangs, making it one of the races to watch for 2010. — Michelle Krebs, Edmunds' Senior Analyst and Editor at Large

One word describes why the Mustang will outsell the Camaro and that word is "CONVERTIBLE!" If GM is really serious, it needs to spend money to develop not just a convertible but one that is as strong as the Mustang and i don't think they have the bucks to do that. And Obama isn't going to loan them any more money.

The Challenger is a sweet car but needs some suspension tuning for the RT and it's too expensive compared to the cars here. You have to put a lot of options in the Ford to get close to the RT and the Ford will smoke it.

The Camaro has had a giant advertising campaign since before it was released, HotRodSea. It's called the movie Transformers, which is about the perfect place to advertise a car that looks like it should be piloted by aliens.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the Predators driving one down their main drag in that movie, it would look at home.

Um. The Mustang platform is based on the old Jag/Lincoln platform with a Mazda 3 front subframe. It began as a Sedan just as the Camaro did. Only a better Sedan...

I have always been in love with the camaro and I love the new camaro. But there are few things I dont like about it. 1). The color selections are god awful. Only one blue being offered for 2011. Even the new Challenger has a better color selection. And if you pay that kind of money for a pony car you should be able to get the color you like 2). chevy is so slow as syrup 3). interior materials aren't as good as the mustangs PERIOD. For example the painted over metal look on the instrument panel and cheap plastic. At least the mustang uses real metal for the gauge cluster. What's up with the cheap ass HVAC controls?? 3). The mustang is based on its own platform at least 4). The camaro is heavier than the mustang 5). Still no Z28 model to compete with the Shelby GT500 6). No kool advertisements for the camaro NOTHING! Its clear the GM needs to pull the stick out of there asses and improve quality on the new camaro if they want to seriously compete with the mustang.
