    • A $28,600 Ford Mustang V6 Premium with a 305-horsepower 3.7-liter V6 was tested against a Chevrolet Camaro 2LT with a 304-hp 3.6-liter V6 and a $28,195 sticker price.

YONKERS, New York — The Ford Mustang V6 beat the porkier Chevrolet Camaro with a V6 in a new Consumer Reports comparison test of the two vehicles. The consumer watchdog pounded the Camaro for feeling "relatively ungainly" and griped that the V6 engine in the Chevy dilutes "the fun factor."

The $28,600 Ford Mustang V6 Premium with a 305-horsepower 3.7-liter V6 tested by Consumer Reports was praised for being "the more agile and enjoyable car to drive of the two." The Mustang was pitted against a Chevrolet Camaro 2LT with a 304-hp 3.6-liter V6 and a $28,195 sticker price.

"Opting for a V6 engine did not overly dilute the fun factor in driving the Mustang, but it did for the Camaro," said Consumer Reports in a statement on Tuesday. "The Ford's new V6 engine is not only more refined than the Camaro's, it delivered stronger acceleration and better fuel economy. The Camaro provides decent acceleration, but it's not as readily available. The car rides well enough, but it's almost 300 pounds heavier than the Mustang."

Consumer Reports said the Mustang received a "recommended" designation but said "the Camaro is too new for Consumer Reports to have reliability data."

I'd drive either one. Manly me says Camaro... Performance me says Mustang.

If the Consumers Reports said the sun was coming up tomorrow, I wouldn't believe it.

The most  anti domestic magazine out there.  I know.  I used their recommendation on a Honda Odyssey.  Transmission went out twice.  Sliding door motor failed.  Seats too hard to remove.  No mention in CR about any of this.  Total waste of money.

Consumer Reports? Reporting on driving fun? Wow.Could they be finally coming down from all that Toyota Kool-Aid, i.e the auto as a no maintenance kitchen appliance, but only faster and larger? Perhaps they've noticed how other websites like Edmunds,The Tire Rack, and True Delta, are showing up flaws in their methodology regarding automotive performance and reliability testing...Well holy Cornelia Guest, let's hope so. CR still remains the best at pointing out that you might bump your head getting into the back seat of a sport coupe, and for judging how well placed the cupholders are, and lastly, whether the dealership's service guy was either a very nice man,or not a very nice man.

Ironically CR did say they liked the Camaro's steering wheel better--which places them at odds with IL.

C'mon everyone, you know that interior on the Camaro is cheap looking and that exterior will soon be viewed as a child's design(no offense to its designer). The Mustang and Challenger look much better and the Mustang has all the performance to back it when holding the numbers AND holding the wheel. It's just a better car all-around. Kudos to Camaro for the bold comeback though. I do like the design, but as I said, it will soon be dated.

Well I just had the good fortune to try out both as Hertz Rental cars when I was in the U.S. last week.  The Mustang rides better, handles better, has a better feel on the road and goes harder when you put your foot down.

To bad Consumer Reports doesn't warrant my respect anymore. After the iPhone testing debacle I don't give them much credit on any of their reports. For those who didn't get the news on that CR said they would recommend the iPhone if Apple supplied a "bumper" to alleviate the supposed reception issues. When Apple supplied those bumpers at no cost and offered to refund all costs on returned iPhones CR backtracked and still refused to grant a recommended rating. I'll stick with professionals like insideline.com instead thanks very much.

Ok maybe its just me but if anything I think that quote that edmunds used as a quote from consumer reports should show that only people that dont know cars and akin to doing whatever they read would even rely on CR besides it being poorly writted. First off what does readily available even mean not to mention the Camaro offers decent acceleration.....lol a 5.9 second 0 -60 for a car that big is better than decent. Not to mention its 300 pound curve weight difference for what a .2 - .4 second 0-60 time makes the mustang have excellent exceleration and the Camaro only decent.  lol and besides who goes to a dealership and saids ill take that car because it lighter....lol CR continues how useless it is... I wouldnt disagree the Mustang is more refined and overall a better package but anyone that uses a CR review for anything especially a performance car is clearly lemming material....

That's what having a weight advantage will do for you. Hey Ford, keep this in mind while you are working on the 50th anniversary car. The Mustang does not need to get any bigger or heavier.
