@ jmaroun The reason the burnouts were probably "better" in the seventies is because many cars back then still used bias-ply tires, which tend to have less traction because of their construction: their sidewall and footprint are interdependent because of how the rubber is laid.
Because bias-ply tires are constructed differently, it's probably quite likely that what you remember of a burnout is different from most you see today.

My 2010 ZR1 does the burnouts you remember. In fact, I don't remember a car doing a better or longer burnout. Certainly not from a mustang.

A very respectable burnout, but I don't know if its the tires or the pavement, however; this burnout is way too docile sounding!!!!
Growing up in the seventies, I remember cool! muscle cars tearing up Main Street in Paterson, NJ next to Piccalos pizzeria. First, I remember the rumble of the exhaust and carborator/engine compartment filling the air with a warning. Then, I remember huge badd-ass tires SCREAMMING and smoke and gasoline fume everywhere! I remember long streaks of black rubber and feeling as though there was an earthquake. The burnout left me distraught, frightened, alarmed, excited, and impressed all at the same time. Of course, I was only about 10 but That was how a burnnout is supposed to F'ing be! Know what I'm sayin? Now, I know this car probably has more balls then them old time tough cars, yet the attitude and testosterone doesn't show. Shame.
