DEARBORN, Michigan — Ford will launch a new 2012 Ford Mustang customizer Web site on Tuesday that lets users deck out a Mustang V6, GT, Boss 302 or Shelby GT500.

Ford told Inside Line that the site is unusual because parts included in it are not only from Ford but from vendors. In addition, a user's creations can be shared on Facebook.

The site also has a Battle Mode where users can compete with others for the most votes.

"It's a simple-to-use layout that lets users take the base design of the Mustang and run with it," said Brian McClary, Ford social and emerging media specialist in a statement.

Accessories include body kits, wheels, decals, grilles and deck lids, along with parts from Ford Racing Performance Parts and Ford Vehicle Personalization.

Inside Line says: Ford enlists an army of enthusiasts to help get the word out about the Mustang.

I guess I'm just boring, but my preference would be a Boss 302 with the Shaker 500 stereo, GT's driving lights, and HID's. None of which are offered as factory equipment. Oh, and in the standard red with black accent stripes, and the Recaro package.
That to me would be the perfect Mustang.

An inexpensive way for Ford to gauge customer preferences and tailor styling, packages, and colors for upcoming model years.
