ORLANDO, Florida — Ford is rolling out the 2012 version of its Cobra Jet Mustang at the 2010 Performance Racing Industry show here on December 11 and will build 50 copies of the drag-racing pony car.
The 2012 Cobra Jet Mustang will be a turnkey car ready to campaign in NHRA Stock and Super Stock or other racing series such as NMRA, NMCA, PSCA or IHRA. It has a 5.4-liter aluminum engine that makes 430 horsepower, based on the 2011 SVT Mustang, and comes with a 2.3-liter TVS or 4.0-liter Ford Racing Whipple supercharger.
The Cobra Jet also gets a race-prepped automatic transmission, drag race-specific shocks and springs, manual steering and brakes, 8.50 certified roll cage, and an Aeromotive return-style fuel system with trunk-mounted fuel cell.
Available in Race Red, Grabber Blue and Winner White with color-coordinated graphics, the Mustang racer has black anodized Cobra Jet wheels from Weld Racing.
The Cobra Jet starts at $91,900 and tops out at $103,980 fully loaded. It can also be built à la carte from a Mustang Body in White or donor car, using the Ford Performance Parts catalog, Ford said.
It will be built in Flat Rock, Michigan, alongside the 2012 production Mustang, starting in the first quarter of 2011.

@ yankee831
I think Dodge was doing something similar with the Challenger...I doubt GM will offer a pack like this for Camaro.

First off this car is awesome! could somebody please explain to me why ford makes race cars? i think its awesome you just never really hear about them making OEM race cars. I think its great that ford is still making awesome cars and trucks like the Raptor and all the sweet Mustang packages! can anybody please explain if other manufactures make comparable cars or if people just have to retrofit original cars.

Why does the 430HP drag model turn better times than the 550HP GT?
