- Ford Racing will sell twin-screw supercharger kits directly to Mustang GT owners.
- Kits with a piggyback ECU tune will deliver 525 hp and 624 hp.
- Prices start at $6,499 and go up from there.
DEARBORN, Michigan — The 2012 Mustang Boss 302 may have grabbed much of the spotlight at this past weekend's Woodward Dream Cruise, but Ford had another ace up its sleeve during the festivities. Ford Racing announced that it is offering the first power upgrade component for the 2011 Mustang with the 5.0-liter V8 — a new 2.3-liter twin-screw supercharger.
Be prepared to pony up significant cash for the upgrade. Ford will offer the supercharger in three levels. The 525-horsepower kit starts at $7,199, while the 624-hp kit starts at $7,499. The basic supercharger kit starts at $6,499.
Ford says this is the first twin-screw unit available to customers. The 525-hp kit provides a boost of 113 hp to the base 5.0-liter V8, while peak torque is up by 80 pound-feet. The 5.0-liter V8 in the 2011 Mustang delivers 412 hp at 6,500 rpm and 390 lb-ft of torque at 4,250 rpm right off the showroom floor.
The 525-hp kit comes with a 12-month/12,000-mile warranty when installed by a Ford or Lincoln dealer, said the automaker. It includes such goodies as a 2.3-liter twin-screw supercharger assembly, intake manifold, a complete air-to-liquid intercooler system and an ECU tune from Ford Racing engineers that provides 7 psi of supercharger boost on 93 ocatane fuel. The base price of $7,199 is for the "black" version; if vanity requires you to get a polished chrome intake manifold, you'll pay $7,799.
The 624-hp kit does not carry the 12-month warranty. You get all the same items as the 525-hp kit, except the ECU map now gives you 9 psi of boost for 624 hp at 6,900 rpm and 536 lb-ft of torque at 4,700 rpm. The base price of $7,499 sets you up with a black plastic intake manifold; the polished chrome version costs $8,099.
If you like to do things the hard way, you can buy the base supercharger tuner kit without the out-of-the-box ECU tune. It will cost you $6,499 with the black plastic manifold or $7,099 for chrome.

@supra4
That is the best road I've ever driven. From to Socorro to Roswell was the funnest, most peaceful 4 hours of my life.

icecubefosho You got to get out of the city. 45 to Dallas is 250 miles and wide open for a lot of those miles. 50 miles outside of houston on I-10 east or west will offer you lots of opportunities. Need a radar detector to help the odds.

Wachford You are correct. I meant to say the M25, not M60. I stand corrected. I worked at Medway Power near the Isle of Grain in 2005. I just forgot the correct identification, but I did drive on the M25. 5:00 PM was terrible. I recall Isle of Grain is connected by the A228 (a.k.a The Way of the Damned) which goes through Stoke and is near Hoo. I stayed in Chatham. Also, Rochester has an old castle and a beautiful cathedral.

Your sense of proportionality is extremely flawed. Wishing death upon someone for speeding is ridiculous and abhorrent. Windsor5 is not an idiot, but perhaps you are. What are you even doing on a car enthusiasts web site.
Driving from Albuquerque to Roswell NM is great. You could drive on the 285 for an hour without seeing another car. First time I ever hit my governor. Don't have that pesky contraption anymore :P

You seem rather clueless about roads in the UK. The M60 is nowhere near London. London is in the South-East of England. The M60 is in the North-West.

Neither really, but leaning towards a Roll Tide!!!
This is a factory option that I wouldn't mind having. 100+ horsepower for only 6k? I've heard of worse deals.

I don't know Sugarland! I was on Westpark and then 59, and finally I-45s and I encountered a bunch of hellish bumper to bumper traffic, and on my ride back! Then again, it seems like all the idiots get on the roads on Mondays.
Though I love driving any of the freeways late at night, especially when passing through the scenic downtown... Hardly any traffic makes me a happy man. A supercharged Mustang would sweeten the deal.

"Do you think the tranny will be able to support this level of HP?"
At the 525 hp level - yes seeing Ford will back the warranty.
At the 624hp level - no, seeing Ford does not offer the warranty.

Well this is a deal.
Ford charges only $8K for an extra 200hp, while Porsche with the Panamera charges $22K for an extra 40 hp.
