What is it?
2010 Ford Racing Boss 302R Mustang
What's special about it?
Yes, the Boss is back, as Ford is very eager to say. And the company got the details right for this rebirth of a legend, from the black "hockey stick" stripes on the flanks to the yellow-orange color. Who could blame Ford for looking back fondly on the Bud Moore-prepared Mustang that won the 1970 Trans-Am championship against the Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger, among others? Then, as now, Ford was feeling the heat from its pony car competition. But unlike the original 1969 and 1970 Boss 302 Mustangs that were styled by ex-Corvette designer Larry Shinoda, the new Boss 302R is a race-only proposition, at least for now.
The basic 302R, which can be purchased directly from Ford as a complete racer and which lists for $79,000, will be eligible for competition in SCCA- and NASA-sanctioned races. It will come with a 5.0-liter V8 that shares its block with the 2011 Mustang GT, a six-speed manual transmission, racing-spec suspension, Brembo brakes and of course a safety package of race seat, safety harness and roll cage.
Step up to the Grand-Am series (now the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, not the Koni Challenge) and the 302R1 will set you back $129,000. It will include a sealed high-output race motor, upgraded cooling system, a close-ratio six-speed transmission, balanced one-piece driveshaft and even a seam-welded body. Ford Racing says that five such cars will be delivered ready to race at the season-opening round at Daytona International Speedway on January 29, 2010, the day before the Rolex 24.
Inside Line says: It might be just an evolution of the FR500C racer that Ford's been campaigning for a couple of years now, but there's still magic in the name and the paint scheme. — Daniel Pund, Senior Editor, Detroit

Either badges would be Great. I love the 5.0 and I will be buying a 2011 because Ford has bless me and all other 5.0 lovers out here. 5.0, C-mon! Unknown amount of Valves. This should be really fun. The wife has given the go ahead and I am now saving even more.

I wish Ford would place this grille emblem to the new mustang as well. The red white and blue stripes are classic and would look much better on the side of the 2011 mustang than the 5.0 badges.

What's to say? It's American classic made modern. Ya gotta love it.
